Cinco de Mayo Party Followed by Seis de Mayo Hangover
Grinnell-- Student Phil Thompson '05 has never been to Mexico in his life, and, if asked, would be incapable of telling you that Cinco de Mayo is in celebration of the Mexican victory against the French on May 5, 1862. He would, in fact, probably be incapable of telling you that "Cinco" is Spanish for "Five."
He can, however, make a mean margarita, which were available in abundance at his Cinco de Mayo celebration, held at the High Street house he shares with friends. Unfortunately, he is now paying the price for his night of revelry-- Thompson is now suffering from the hated Seis de Mayo hangover.
"I guess I did go a little overboard," he said. "But man, Cinco de Mayo only comes once a year. Whoa, will you close the curtains? Thanks."
Kate Johnson '05, Thompson's girlfriend, sighed. "Yeah, he was so wasted last night. It was even worse than after that Arbor Day party. That was wild. Look, don't worry about Phil, he'll be fine. He's like that every Seis de Mayo. Just wait, he'll be better than ever by Flag Day."
Thompson, happily, triumphed over both his Seis de Mayo hangover and the dreaded Siete de Mayo Bathroom Cleaning.
